Läsa roman med gruppdiskussion
Reading a novel with group discussion

You are going to read a novel for eight lessons* as a combination of lesson work and homework, and as a combination of reading and discussing.

The time plan is in the table below.*
Lessons with odd numbers are primarily for reading.
Lessons with even numbers are primarily for discussion.*
You can, however, begin even-numbered lessons too by reading, if you agree to do so within your group, but you should save at least 20 minutes for discussion at the end of the lesson.

*(based on lessons of approx. 75-90 minutes long and subject to change, depending on when we started reading, etc.)

Prepare a presentation of your novel, by picking and choosing from the template for analysis ("Mall för romananalys") below. No spoilers, though, as to how the book ends!
Before the last lesson:

Practise vocabulary.
Prepare presentation, if not already done
8 Present (summarize)
individually (3-4 mins) in a new group, where all members have read different books.
Make sure to have your collected vocabulary (words IN their context) for next lesson, when you are going to make exercises out of them to share with the rest of class.

**To plan:
Decide in your group how much to read (to which page) for next lesson's discussion.
Also decide who is doing which role during the discussion (depending on group size, members may have to do more than one role):

Roles:

  1. Secretary - During the discussion in class, one group member will document the main points (both concerning the plot, and the other points for discussion below). This "secretary" should not be the same person each time. Submit for feedback by your teacher.
  2. Summarizer - Provides a quick summary of main events so far.
  3. Questioner - Brings up 2-3 questions. Could be things that are unclear, or questions why things happened/why characters act like they do etc.
  4. Connector - Leads the discussion about how events/characters relate to us and our time/society.
  5. Collector - Selects approx. 25 words/phrases/expressions every week, that s/he thinks are a good choice for improving your vocabulary. You might want to use an OCR scanning app, e.g. Microsoft Office Lens for this. Copy each word etc. including the sentence it appeared in. Save using our school's cloud service.
Finally, submit/share as an online gap fill exercise, available for everybody. Check with your teacher for details.
  6. Characterizer - What do you think of the main characters? Are they relatable, likable, credible? Do they evolve over time?
  7. Forecaster - What do you think will happen next?

  5. Plot: What happens?
Is there some sort of challenge for the main character(s) to deal with?
